These New Burpee Vegetables Will WOW Gardeners
The Burpee team is thrilled to share their 2022 lineup in advance of Ball Seed Customer Days. Let’s dive into three new products you'll see on-site in West Chicago this Summer: Patio Delight Tomato, Demon Red Hot Pepper and Mexican Sour Gherkin Cucumber.
Patio Delight Tomato (left) is rich with red fruit and has a delightful texture and flavor. This tomato is a determinate, patio-friendly plant and is recommended for container use only.
Demon Red Hot Pepper (center) has a Scoville rating of 173,500 — similar to a habanero. This ornamental edible is great in containers on the patio and does well in the garden. The bright red fruit covers the plant to give it a unique appearance.
Finally, the fruits of the Mexican Sour Gherkin Cucumber (right) look like miniature watermelon and taste like cucumbers with tangy citrus overtones. This plant also attracts hummingbirds and scales up quickly. It will perform best in the garden with the use of a trellis. What a fun, unique vegetable to add to your benches!
